Why choose home visit physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy at home can offer benefits that traditional physiotherapy based in a physical clinic can not deliver and is becoming accepted as the best way of delivering physiotherapy. Our patients have no need to find extra time in their busy schedules to visit a clinic - instead by using our service, one of our physiotherapists goes out and visits them! For those patients working long days (or nights) this can often be of great benefit.
Clearly home visit physiotherapy has more benefits than just that of saving time; by being assessed and treated at home a comprehensive examination of your home environment can take place which will look at how it could be affecting your rehabilitation. This facilitates the job of our physiotherapists in determining which treatment options are likely to work best for you. For any patients with a neurological pathology (e.g. Multiple Sclerosis) this can offer enormous benefits. It is also of great help to those of our patients who are recovering from a stroke and those who have been ill recently and have just come out of hospital.
Some patients find mobilising to be extremely difficult and find that the effort required to visit a clinic makes rehab virtually impossible. For patients such as these, our home visit physiotherapy service provides a great rehab option as it eliminates the difficulties of visiting a clinic. The patients we see, often have many reasons for their difficulty with mobilising: some have recently undergone surgery (commonly a joint replacement) or they may recently have been ill (possibly been admitted into hospital) and subsequently become weaker and lost confidence in their balance and ability to walk. Our service at home delivers great benefits for these patients by removing the necessity of visiting a clinic and allowing rehabilitation to begin earlier.
What will it involve?
After making an appointment - (we run a 7 day service with evening appointments as well , so you should be able to find a time to suit you) , a physiotherapist will visit you at home. Each of our physiotherapists comes equipped with a plinth (massage/assessment table) and a bag containing any other equipment they may need such as massage oil or acupuncture needles.
Each initial assessment begins with a full verbal history being taken in order to get a detailed picture of your situation, your goals and how your condition is affecting you. Next a thorough physical examination is conducted, to see how you move, where you are sore and if there are any joint or tissue restrictions - combined with the verbal information this allows the physiotherapist to formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Your physiotherapist will then explain their diagnosis and discuss with you how this can be best treated- this is an extremely important section as it allows you to understand the nature of your condition and also communicate to your physiotherapist any goals you have or how your would prefer things to proceed.
Treatment will then take place - our physiotherapists have many treatment options available including massage, spinal manipulation, acupuncture, trigger point release, myofascial release and trigger point needling. Finally the physiotherapist will detail any self-management strategies and exercises that you need to do to help improve things yourself and will then book any follow up treatments needed with you.
