Just a quick blog post to say what an enjoyable morning I had recently helping out at the Lichfield 10km and Family Fun Run 2018. We received a last minute email from the organiser asking for help with the pre and post race sports massage and of course being a Lichfield based physiotherapy practice and knowing what a brilliant event the run is I agreed to help out.
Sports massage is a great way to promote recovery and also to get ready for an event and it is something that we do a lot of at ThreeSpires Physiotherapy. At an event such as the Lichfield 10km it can help get legs ready for running and also after the evnt help ease tension, increase blood flow and promote recovery.
So on the day I arrived at 9am to see an already busy and bustling field full of staff and some competitors. After a quick chat with teh organisers I set up underneath a marquee in breezy conditions (note to self - next time have a tent with sides on it!). I was soon into the swing of things and heloping runners with a quick pre-event sports massage and answering any injury questions that they might have. At about 10.30am the runners set off and I was able to have a quick coffee. Incredibly quickly the first runners were returning with the winner being back in just over 30 minutes! Then it was all hands to the massage plinth as the runners descended on us and wanted injury advice and sports massages. A few hours then passed in a blur of legs, chat about the event and answering injury questions. At about 1pm, all was finished and the last of the competitors left and I was able to pack up my plinth and head off home for lunch.
The photo below shows the set up (I have blanked out the runners face as I forgot to get his permission for a photo)
It was a brilliant morning watching the runners of all ages and abilities and the event was really well organised and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Just to remind anyone reading this blog we are a home visit physiotherapy service based in Lichfield and serving Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth, Rugeley, Cannock and Walsall.
