Hello and welcome back to the ThreeSpires Physiotherapy blog where we discuss all things physiotherapy related. In the last of our physiotherapy blogs we looked at injuries of the ankle and at some point (hopefully fairly soon) we shall move a bit further down and have a look at the foot from the perspective of a physiotherapist. I say from the perspective of a physio because the foot is a hugely complex joint and podiatrists spend their whole degree considering and working on understanding the foot! Anyway back to the topic of this blog: podcasts.
What have podcasts got to do with physiotherapy I hear you say!? Well, as a physiotherapist I have to continually try to keep on top of the latest findings and ideas and do a fair amount of continuing professional development (CPD) and one way that I find very useful for doing this is by listening to podcasts. There are presently a large number of physiotherapy and health related podcasts out there and I tend to listen to them whilst I am driving around Staffordshire and the West Midlands visiting patients. As a community physiotherapist I am often driving around between patients in Lichfield, Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth, Cannock, Rugeley and Walsall to name but a few of the areas I visit and as such rather than listen to music or the news I often choose to fill those drives with a podcast on a particular physiotherapy or health topic. Now, this may sound like I am some kind of sad obsessive about physiotherapy and health and possibly I am but it is a useful way of keeping up to date with new ideas and hearing other clinicians’ opinions and ideas about various topics. So, for anyone interested I thought I would list my top two physio and health related podcasts:
- British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM): I find these a great resource, they are usually reasonably short (20 – 30 mins) which fits into drives between patients and they are really varied. Topics range from sporting injuries to diet, heart disease and general health.
- Physio Edge: If you have more time or a longer journey these are brilliant. They are hosted by an Australian physio David Pope and they cover an enormous range of physiotherapy topics, injuries and areas. They are a bit longer and are probably only of interest to other physios but personally I have learnt loads from listening.
There are an enormous number of other physiotherapy and health related podcasts out there and I do listen to a few others such as The Physio Matters Podcast, The NAF Podcast and The PT Inquest podcast but if you haven’t listened to any of the content from the two above there should be enough to keep you busy for a while.
Okay, hope you found this blog useful for anyone reading this blog for the first time: we are a home visit physiotherapy service, based in Lichfield and serving Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth, Cannock, Walsall and Rugeley.
