A couple of blogs previously we started having a look at the physiotherapy service that we deliver in Tamworth and some of the physiotherapy services that we provide to our patients in Tamworth and areas such as Hopwas, Amington, Two Gates, Fazeley and Polesworth. In this blog I thought we would move on tor look at how our physiotherapists help patients in care and nursing home in Tamworth.

When I chat to the relatives of many of our patients who are in care or nursing homes in Tamworth I find that many of them assumed that when their mum/dad or aunty needed to go into care, that the care or nursing staff at the care home wouldl be able to do exercises and rehabilitation work with them.

All too often in the majority of cases this will not be the situation. There are many reasons for this but mostly it is because the carers at the home are likely to be too busy. Also though it is worth bearing in mind that the care staff will not be trained to assess which exercises and rehabilitation would be most appropriate for a patient. In these cases our physiotherapy service can really make a difference, as our physiotherapists come with a large amount of experience of working with patients in care or nursing homes in Tamworth and helping improve their mobility.

To help understand how our physiotherapy service can help we can briefly use the example of an elderly person living in Tamworth who has just had a stroke. Most likely after having the stroke they will then spend several weeks (at least) in hospital, and once they become medically fit they will be discharged to a local care home in the Tamworth area (if they are unable to manage at home). Ideally what this patient needs is a large amount of intensive physiotherapy to enable them to make the maximum possible recovery. In the example given one of our highly experienced physiotherapists will be able to visit the care home in Tamworth, complete a full assessment and prepare a plan of how best to help the patient make the best possible recovery. Our physiotherapist will also be able to liaise with the staff at the home and any other medical professionals Our physios have a wide range of experience and will be able to help with most conditions such as recovering from a stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, recovery from a joint replacement and general loss of mobility due to illness. Having a physiotherapist able to visit early on in the recovery process is the best way to maximise the odds of recovery and our success with this is borne out in our testimonials section on our website (found here) and on our facebook page (found here)

I hope you have found this blog helpful, in the next blog we will continue looking at interesting pieces of physiotherapy research
