Recently we had a brief look at our home visit physiotherapy service in Cannock and some of the physiotherapy services that we offer in Cannock and surrounding areas such as Hednesford, Heath Hayes and Norton Cane. This time I thought we would continue in the same theme but this rather look at how our physiotherapists help patients in care and nursing home in Cannock.

Most people assume that when their mum/dad or aunty needs to go to a care home after being ill, or a general reduction in mobility that the care or nursing staff at the care home will be able to do exercises and rehabilitation work with them.

Sadly this is in the vast majority of cases not the situation, simply because the carers at the home are likely to be too busy and also they are not trained to assess what exercises and rehabilitation would be most suitable for a patient. This is where our physiotherapy service really comes into its own, as our physiotherapists have a large amount of experience of working with patients in care or nursing homes in Cannock and helping improve their mobility.

For example: possibly they have had a stroke, they then spent several weeks (at least) in hospital, and they have now been discharged to a local care home in the Cannock area. What this person now needs is a large amount of intensive physiotherapy to enable them to make the maximum possible recovery. In this situation one of our physios will be able to visit the care home, meet with the relatives and patient, complete an assessment and come up with a plan of how best to get the patient back on their feet. They will also be able to liaise with the carers, nursing staff and the local GP. Our physios have a wide range of experience and will be able to help with most conditions such as recovering from a stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, recovery from a joint replacement and general loss of mobility due to illness.
