Hello, again and welcome back to our series of blogs going into detail about our physiotherapy servcies in Cannock. This time I thought we could have a look at our neurological physiotherapy service in Cannock and surrounding areas such as Hednesford, Heath Hayes and Norton Canes.

Often, when patients are looking into neurological physiotherapy in Cannock the first question they have is: "exactly what  is neurological physiotherapy?" Well, neurological physiotherapy (often shortened to neuro physio) is concerned with helping patients who have some form of neurological condition for example Multiple Sclerosis, Parkiinson's Disease or possibly they have had a stroke. Neurological physiotherapy is very "hands on" and aims to help re-establish normal movement patterns, promote independence and maimise the potential of each patient. To highlight what is involved with neurological physiotherapy it is possibly worth looking at a typical neurological patient as an example:

In this case our patient lives in the Cannock area and had a stroke several years ago, she did initially have physiotherapy via the NHS but this stopped a long time ago and she has been left with difficulties around balance, mobility and strength in the legs and arm. She has decided that she would like to see if physiotherapy may be able to further enhance her recovery and improve her balance. After booking an initial assessment our neurological physiotherapist visited the patient at her home in Cannock and conducted a full assessment, examining areas such as strength, posture, balance, sensation, co-ordination and movement patterns. This information was then used to devise a treatment plan, a home exercise plan and set some goals to work towards. After this our physio visited the patient regularly over several months working towards improving her balance, strength and stability.

Importantly, although we have used the example of a patient with a stroke in Cannock, this is by no means the only neurolgical condition that our physiotherapy service in Cannock is able to work with and in fact we help patients with a wide range of neurological difficulties including: traumatic brain injury, recover from brain surgery, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease. We are able to deliver this neurological physiotherapy service in a wide range of settings including care and nursing homes and the patient's own home within Cannock.

Our physiotherapists have a large amount of fantastic feedback on their work available to view on our website under our testimonials section or if you prefer we have feedback available on our facebook page here and our google + page here.
