Why home visit physiotherapy?
By providing physiotherapy at home we are able to deliver benefits that traditional practices located in a clinic can not offer. Home visit physiotherapy is becoming widely accepted as the best way of providing physiotherapy to patients. Patients with our service are not required to find extra time in their day to get to a physiotherapy clinic - instead we visit you at home, saving you that hassle! For many of our patients who have long days at work, tiring commutes and busy lives, this can be of great benefit.
There are certainly and great deal more benefits from home visit physiotherapy than just saving time; physiotherapy at home enables a comprehensive assessment of the ways in which your home may be affecting your condition or injury. Furthermore it facilitates a more accurate determination of the best treatment methods and exercises for your lifestyle. For patients with a neurological problem or those recovering from a stroke this can be a great advantage. It also aids those who are recovering after illness, have been admitted to hospital and are now wanting to regain their previous strength and mobility.
Many of the patients that we see, presently find mobilising and walking very difficult and for them the time required to visit a physical practice would make recovery much harder. In these cases our home visit physiotherapy service provides a great solution by taking away the difficulty of getting to a clinic. Difficulty with walking and mobilising can be caused by a number of factors: sometimes they have had a surgical procedure (often a joint replacement) or often they have had a period of illness and hospitalisation causing them to become weaker and lose confidence. Physiotherapy at home delivers a great service for these cases by eliminating the necessity of traveling and allows recovery to happen much earlier.
What will it involve?
Once you have arranged an appointment you will be visited at home by one of our experienced physiotherapists. Each physiotherapist carries a plinth (massage/assessment table) and a bag with equipment they may need.
The initial session begins with a conversation with your physiotherapist which enables the physiotherapist to identify what your main concern is, understand your goals and also to cover past medical history. This component of the overall assessment is essential as it allows you the chance to discuss what you are looking for and also enables the physiotherapist to have a better idea of how they may be able to help.
A physical examination will then take place which will look at many factors such as - range of movement, strength, balance, alignment and gait. This allows any dysfunctions to be identified and the underlying cause of these problems to be assessed. The results of this assessment are then combined with the information gained earlier to prepare a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Any diagnosis will always be thoroughly explained and we will make sure you understand the reasoning that has led us to make that diagnosis. Our experience has shown that the best results are achieved with patients when they have a good understanding of the problem and our physiotherapists always try to explain things clearly.
The treatment component of the session will then take place - there are many options including spinal manipulation, soft tissue massage, acupuncture and sports massage. Once the session has finished any exercises that you need to complete are detailed and any follow up sessions booked
