Why home visit physiotherapy? 

Physiotherapy at home offers many benefits that traditional physiotherapy based in physical premises is unable to provide and is slowly becoming accepted as the optimum way of delivering physiotherapy. To begin with, our patients don't have to create additional time in their busy diaries to make the journey to a clinic - instead we come out to you! For some patients, working full time with very busy lives this is  one of the most important benefits. 

Assessment and treatment  at home by a chartered physiotherapist enables a thorough review of the ways your environment may be affecting you and the best methods to use in order to maximise your recovery. Our experience shows that this is of enormous benefit to anyone who has a neurological condition such as cerebral palsy, is recovering from the effects of a stroke or has recently been admitted to hospital and is starting the arduous process of recovery.

Many of the patients we see are having great difficulty in walking. This could be due to a major operation such as a knee replacement or they may have been taken ill and spent an extended period in hospital causing a loss of strength and mobility. As a consequence, leaving the house is very hard if not impossible and home visit physiotherapy offers an ideal solution.

We also offer a highly specialised paediatric physiotherapy service treating young children, babies and toddlers and this service is available either at home or at school depending upon where is best for the child.

What will it involve? 

Once you have arranged an appointment, one of our physiotherapists will visit you at home. Each physiotherapist carries a plinth (massage/assessment table) and a bag with equipment they may need. 

The first appointment begins with a conversation in order to examine your problem, look at any goals you have and to cover any relevant past medical history. This is a vital element of the session as it enables you to explain what you want and the physiotherapist to have a better understanding of your particular needs.

A physical examination then looks at an array of interlinking factors including - strength, balance, muscle function, co-ordination, postural alignment and gait. At this point your physiotherapist is trying to isolate and analyse any underlying dysfunctions and prepare a diagnosis and treatment plan. 

The diagnosis and treatment options available will then be discussed with you, we consider it essential that you have a clear understanding of the problem and we will always try to explain matters in a clear and concise manner.

Treatment will then begin - there are multiple options including spinal manipulation, soft tissue massage, acupuncture and sports massage. Once the session has finished any exercises that you need to complete are detailed and any follow up sessions booked
