About ThreeSpires Physiotherapy
ThreeSpires Physiotherapy was started by Dave Pinnington after he identified a need for high quality, professional home visit physiotherapy throughout Staffordshire and the West Midlands.
We are based in Lichfield and provide physiotherapy anywhere within a 25 minute drive including areas such as Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth, Rugeley, Cannock and Walsall. Our physiotherapy service aims to provide the very best home visit physiotherapy service to a wide range of patients. We have a wide range of types and specialisms of physiotherapy available including neurological physiotherapy, elderly mobility, falls reduction programmes, post-operative physiotherapy, back and neck pain relief, paediatric physiotherapy and acupuncture. We believe that patients benefit from physiotherapy that takes place in a familiar environment such as the home. This allows patients to have their treatment or assessment at a time that is convenient for them. This is also useful for people whose mobility is restricted and feel unable to go to a clinic as we come direct to the home.
Dave Pinnington: graduated with a 1st Class Honours in Bsc Physiotherapy from the University of Central Lancashire and has experience in musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and neurological physiotherapy. He has a particular interest in the effectiveness of manual therapy methods such as myofascial release and sports massage in treating musculoskeletal problems and sporting injuries. He has a wide range of sporting interests including surfing, running, skiing and climbing. Rock climbing is his main interest and he has climbed to a high level across the world.
Below are some of Dave’s thoughts about physiotherapy:
Why did you start ThreeSpires Physiotherapy?
There are a few main reasons that I wanted to start ThreeSpires Physiotherapy -
Firstly, people lead such busy lives these days and have so little time available to go to a traditional physiotherapy clinic that I simply saw that it would be so much better if the physio was able to come to them. In Lichfield and areas such as Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth, Rugeley and Cannock this type of physiotherapy service is very limited and so I decided that it would be great to try and offer a high quality professional physiotherapy service to clients/patients in their own homes. I personally have known many people who just struggle along with aches and pains that a physiotherapist could easily help but they simply don’t have the time to get to a physiotherapy clinic either because the clinic closes too early or they would need to take time off work.
There are many people whose mobility is very restricted and have difficulty leaving the home either because of their pain or a condition such as recovering from a stroke and therefore find it very difficult to visit a traditional physiotherapy clinic. Patients such as these benefit greatly from physiotherapy at home and this is evidenced by the great success of our neurological physiotherapy service and our post-operative rehabilitation service at home.
Secondly, I was very frustrated with NHS phsyiotherapy; both the length of time that patients needed to wait to have an appointment and the pressure on physios to discharge patients in order to reduce waiting lists. I believe that quick self-referral to physiotherapy helps prevent conditions and pain becoming chronic, reduces time off work and improves function. Here at ThreeSpires Physiotherapy we will see you swiftly and there is no need to wait for weeks to be seen whilst your pain gets worse.
Finally, I am a firm believer in the effectiveness of manual techniques such as myofascial release, joint mobilisations, neuromuscular techniques and sports massage. They provide patients with relief from their symptoms which then allows them to be able to effectively rehabilitate and self-manage their condition. However, due to time pressures, these techniques are not heavily promoted in the NHS. I wanted to offer clients the ability to benefit from these techniques in a home based setting.
Isn’t physiotherapy just for athletes and sports people?
This is one of the most common misconceptions! The traditional image of a physio is that of someone running onto the pitch at a football or rugby match, or possibly an elite athlete being treated after a long event. Obviously this is part of physiotherapy but it is only a part and in fact the majority of people treated by physios are not sports people.
Physiotherapy can help people of all ages, backgrounds and body types. ThreeSpires Physiotherapy treats a wide range of people and aims to provide effective physiotherapy to anyone with a problem.
How can ThreeSpires Physiotherapy help me with my pain?
This is a common question especially from our patients who are suffering with back or neck pain. The following are the key ways in which we will help you:
We will clearly identify and diagnose the underlying cause of your pain or problem and explain this to you. We have anatomical models of the various joints to help with understanding which structures are not functioning correctly. Understanding the nature and cause of the problem is a vital part of self-management and getting back on the road to recovery.
We will provide effective manual therapy that is aimed at giving you immediate relief from your symptoms and your pain. This is a key part of our service as if we can alleviate your pain you will be able to take that first step on the road to recovery.
We will provide you with a graded rehabiltation and self-management plan that will enable you to regain control of your condition and start getting better. You are the most important person in your own recovery plan and here at ThreeSpires Physiotherapy we believe it is essential that our patients understand how and are able to rehabilitate themselves.
Finally, we will come to you. Easy access to physiotherapy provides improved pain relief and increased function. By coming to you in your home at a day and time that is convenient to you (we run a 7 day service) we can treat your condition more quickly and save you trying to take time off work or struggle out of the house to a traditional clinic.
